Call for case studies – AI adoption in Energy and Water

This is an opportunity to provide case studies for a white paper that will focus on AI adoption in the Utilities Sector.

The United Kingdom is a significant player in the global artificial intelligence (AI) market. With a rich history of technological innovation, the UK hosts numerous technology companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. As of now, the global AI market is valued at over $140 billion and is projected to grow substantially.

The Government published its highly anticipated response to the AI White Paper consultation, which announces £10m in new funding to equip regulators in their efforts to address the sector-specific risks and opportunities of AI, a further £80m to launch nine AI research hubs across the UK, as well as initial thinking on how the Government may respond to highly capable, general-purpose AI models.

Energy and Water

In the dynamic landscape of the UK utilities sector, the integration of AI in customer support, operations, efficiency, and real time decision making has been transformative.

techUK published its AI in Energy report in 2021 outlining how emerging technologies can support the net zero transition of the energy sector.

Machine learning and AI are being seen crucially as a vital technology to manage the increasing complexity of the energy system as it decentralises and decarbonises.

Member Case Studies

We are looking for case studies in the following areas:

  • Grid optimisation, connection, and management.
  • Data readiness across the system.
  • Transmission and distribution of energy.
  • Decentralisation of energy.
  • Sustainability and delivery of net zero.
  • Smart energy assets – EV charging, battery and storage, home assets.
  • Flexibility and demand side response.
  • Water management and processes.

We will also welcome contributions to the content of the report, as well as non-identifiable case studies (anonymised) as long as it supports our position.

The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 23 April 2024.
