About the UK Cyber Security Council:
The UK Cyber Security Council was introduced in March 2021 to be an independent body that sets standards and defines career and learning paths for the cyber security industry. It provides a single governing voice for the industry to establish the knowledge, skills and experience required for a range of cyber security jobs, bringing it in line with other professions such as law, medicine, and engineering.
The basis of the ongoing strategy for the UK Cyber Security Council is set out in five themes:
- Professional Standards
- Professional Ethics
- Careers and Learning
- Outreach and Diversity
- Thought Leadership and Influence
The Cyber Security Council Standard for Professional Competence and Commitment includes these themes as they apply to individuals working in the profession and, in turn, how those individuals apply these attributes as they carry out their roles and responsibilities.
About The Cyber Scheme:
As a founding Licensed Body for the UK Cyber Security Council we are committed to improving access to cyber security as a profession, from entry to expert level, and are invested in improving the skills and competencies of technical cyber. We provide NCSC-Assured training and assessments aimed at developing and accrediting the knowledge, skills and competencies of UK-based security testers and consultants. As threats develop and evolve, so do our solutions – we regularly introduce new training modules and assessment standards which meet the needs of industry, public sector and Critical National Infrastructure.
Our goal is to ensure professionals assessed by us are fully competent in identifying vulnerabilities, and in advising on how to manage and mitigate risks. We encourage diversity within the profession by training to the highest vocational standards, without stipulating any prior knowledge, level of education or career background. In this way we hope to increase the number and the type of people entering the sector, looking beyond traditional higher education routes which don’t fully address the practical skills needed.
