Event round-up: Cyber security & beyond - The impact of the Trump Administration's initiatives on UK tech companies

On Thursday 13 March, techUK was delighted to welcome back Eric Crusius, Partner at Hunton, Andrews, Kurth for a member briefing on US cyber security programmes and requirements and what these mean for UK companies.

The new Trump administration has launched a number of new initiatives, some of which impact UK companies operating in the United States (U.S.) or in the U.S. government supply chain.  Those include domestic production requirements, changing budgetary priorities, and new cyber security regulations.  This briefing covered some of the most impactful initiatives, including existing and forthcoming cyber security requirements.

In addition to reviewing what has occurred recently, Eric explored the significant changes to the cyber security and supply chain space, as the U.S. government has been issuing new cyber security regulations aimed at companies around world that are in the U.S. supply chain or do business with U.S.-based companies.  The session also looked at the new and forthcoming requirements including the U.S. Department of Defense’s (U.S. DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) which will require a third-party cyber security certification and other cyber security initiatives launched by U.S. federal agencies.  The briefing also included a summary of the regulations, who they impact, and strategies for compliance.
