Event Round-Up: Unlocking Innovation Funding: How to navigate grant funding in the tech industry

In this session, we were joined by the British Business Bank and Moore Grants and Incentive (MGI) for an insightful Business Finance Week event focused on how start-ups and scale-ups can access government assistance for Innovation, thereby helping accelerate business and wider economic growth.

This event provided a unique opportunity to gain insights from advisors and hear directly from practitioners on how companies identify, evaluate, monitor and access the different innovation funding opportunities available. These range from tax reliefs and allowances to direct regional, national and EU-level grants. The event the opportunities available, with the interactive session covering various funding options; how to track new funding opportunities/grant competitions as they are released; together with practical tips on applying for grants or preparing R&D tax claims.

With a new government putting clean energy and green technologies at the front of the agenda, this conference will look at how policy and regulation can support tech firms in delivering net zero elsewhere, as well as help firms understand what a new government means for their own net zero journey.

Ed Bevan

Head of SME Engagement, techUK

Ed is Head of SME Engagement and is responsible for shaping techUK’s proposition to our SMEs across the country, ensuring our policy work, market access activity and services benefit the SME community.

Prior to working at techUK, Ed worked in the at the Department for International Trade, engaging with a variety of businesses, particularly SMEs, to understand the benefits of Free Trade Agreements and act as case studies in press and social media. Ed has also worked in policy and public affairs within the voluntary sector, namely the Alzheimer’s Society and the Men’s Health Forum.

Ed holds a MA in International Relations from Leiden University, and in his spare time enjoys spending time with his son, travelling, and visiting historical sites.
