Event round-up: Quantum Readiness: Developing commercial value from quantum technologies in financial services
What it techUK’s quantum readiness series?
As quantum technologies move from concept, development and towards deployment, it is critical that the UK’s leading industries and sectors are ready to realise the potential these new technologies can offer.
As such, techUK will be hosting a series of events and webinars showcasing how these technologies are starting to deliver impact across critical industries and sectors in the UK. We will spotlight real-world impact, emphasizing the imminent need for market readiness.

Quantum technologies could become an essential technology for financial services.
Quantum computing, with its ability to process complex calculations, has emerging use cases across financial services, risk management, portfolio optimisation, and fraud mitigation. Financial institutions who are able to leverage this technology early will gain crucial first mover advantage across these areas. To start on this journey, institutions will need to develop the right skills, identify the right use cases, and build new partnerships.
This session, as part of techUK’s quantum readiness event series, aimed to show how financial institutions are starting to prepare for this advantage today. This was an opportunity to hear from industry leaders who are taking this journey, and the challenges they have faced as they begin to adopt quantum.
While not the primary objective of this event, it also touched upon how to build quantum resilience, which is a primary concern for financial institutions. The session hoped to dispel common misconceptions about quantum security, and emerging solutions to address this threat.
The panel include:
- Dr Sonali Mohapatra, Quantum Sector Innovation Lead, NQCC
-
Marco Paini, VP Financial Services, Rigetti
-
Mekena Metcalf, Senior Quantum Computing Research Scientist, HSBC
-
Manqoba Hlatshwayo, Senior Quantum Applications Engineer, National Quantum Computing Centre
-
Pavle Avramović, Manager, Emerging Tech & Research, Financial Conduct Authority
This session was chaired by Laura Foster, Associate Director for Technology and Innovation at techUK.
