Government launches Technology Adoption Review
On 17 December 2024, DSIT published their latest Call for Evidence: the Technology Adoption Review, which will take evidence on digital adoption in the Industrial Strategy’s eight key growth sectors until Monday 14 February. techUK will respond to this consultation.
The review was set up by DSIT as a result of the Autumn Budget, which recognised that the UK, while a highly innovative economy ranked fifth in the Global Innovation Index 2024, nevertheless suffers when it comes to the diffusion and adoption of technology in the wider economy.
It is noted that this consultation will inform the development of the Industrial Strategy, with the Review focusing on digital adoption in the eight key growth sectors specified in the green paper:

techUK’s response to the green paper, which you can find by clicking here, highlighted the Industrial Strategy’s lack of focus on digital adoption. We welcome the establishment of this Review as the beginning of a conversation on how digital adoption can support the growth of the entire economy across the United Kingdom by increasing UK productivity, GDP growth and living standards.

DSIT encourage firms of all sizes, from across the economy, to respond to these questions. These responses can focus on one or more of the key growth sectors outlined in the Industrial Strategy Green Paper.
The deadline for this consultation is Monday 14 February. Please note, submissions are limited to five pages.

Samiah Anderson
Samiah Anderson is the Head of Digital Economy at techUK, overseeing the Digital Economy programme, which promotes how the UK digital economy and innovation can drive sustained economic growth.
With over six years of Government Affairs expertise, Samiah has built a solid reputation as a tech policy specialist, engaging regularly with UK Government Ministers, senior civil servants and UK Parliamentarians.
Before joining techUK, Samiah led several public affairs functions for international tech firms and coalitions at Burson Global (formerly Hill & Knowlton), delivering CEO-level strategic counsel on political, legislative, and regulatory issues in the UK, EU, US, China, India, and Japan. She is adept at mobilising multinational companies and industry associations, focusing on cross-cutting digital regulatory issues such as competition, artificial intelligence, and more.
She holds a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of London, where she founded the New School Economics Society, the Goldsmiths University chapter of Rethinking Economics.

Usman Ikhlaq
Usman Ikhlaq
Usman joined techUK in January 2024 as Programme Manager for Artificial Intelligence.
His role is to help techUK members of all sizes and across all sectors to adopt AI at scale. This includes identifying the barriers to adoption, considering solutions and how best to maximise AI's potential.
Prior to joining techUK, Usman worked as a policy, government affairs and public affairs professional in the advertising sector. He has also worked in sales and marketing and FinTech.
Usman is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc), BPP Law School (GDL and LLB) and Queen Mary University of London (BA).
When he isn’t working, Usman enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He also has a keen interest in running, reading and travelling.
Archie Breare
Archie Breare
Archie Breare joined techUK in September 2022 as the Telecoms Programme intern, and moved into the Policy and Public Affairs team as the Team Assistant in February 2023 and as Public Affairs Manager in September 2023
Before starting at techUK, Archie was a student at the University of Cambridge, completing an undergraduate degree in History and a master's degree in Modern British History.
In his spare time, he likes to read, discuss current affairs, and to try and persuade himself to cycle more.
