techUK Education & EdTech Council launch elections – what you need to know!

techUK's Education and EdTech council is soon to launch. Find out more about the council and how techUK members can submit a nomination.

Elections are now open for the inaugural techUK Education & EdTech Council, marking an exciting new phase for our programme. As a newly established initiative, this Council will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction for techUK’s work in education and EdTech, ensuring long-term success and impact across the sector.

 

Why the Education & EdTech Council matters

The Education & EdTech programme is designed to support the use of technology in education, helping institutions, policymakers, and businesses navigate digital transformation. The newly formed Council will provide expert guidance, steer programme priorities, and ensure the sector’s needs are well-represented within techUK’s work.

Through collaboration with stakeholders across schools, higher education, and the wider EdTech ecosystem, the Council will:

  • Shape the programme’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with sector needs and policy developments.  
  • Represent the interests of techUK’s Education and EdTech membership, from established industry players to SMEs and startups. 
  • Facilitate engagement with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, and education leaders.

This is an opportunity to be part of a foundational leadership group that will influence the future of education technology within techUK and beyond.

Who is eligible to stand for election?

- Any techUK member can nominate themselves or a colleague for election.
- Seven seats are reserved for SMEs, ensuring a diversity of voices from across the sector.

How the Council will operate

The Council will meet regularly throughout the year, working collaboratively to drive forward key themes and initiatives within techUK’s Education & EdTech programme. Members will be expected to contribute insights, lead discussions, and engage in activities that support the sector’s development.

Key Election Dates

  • Monday, 3rd of March – Nominations open.
  • Friday, 28th of March – Nominations close.
  • Thursday, 3rd of April – Voting opens.
  • Friday, 18th Aril – Voting closes.
  • Wednesday, 23 April – Election results announced.
  • May 2025 – First Council meeting, including Chair & Vice-Chair elections.

How to submit a nomination

To submit a nomination, candidates must provide:

  • A biography (max. 150 words)
  • A headshot*
  • Responses to two key questions (max. 250 words each):
    • What knowledge and experience will you bring to the Council?
    • How would you support techUK’s Education & EdTech Programme and help shape the role of technology in education?

*All headshots, biographies and written answers submitted will be uploaded to the nominations page which will be publicly viewable and used as the key candidate information to inform voting. 

Voting Process

  • Voting will take place online via a secure platform
  • Each techUK member company may vote for multiple candidates. 
  • Seven votes must be allocated to SME candidates to ensure balanced representation.
