Update on the Digital Planning Directory

In 2025, the Directory will introduce a Procurement Resource Hub and a Digital Planning Education and Training Listing. By fostering innovation and collaboration, it aims to support the government’s planning reform agenda and contribute to the development of more sustainable and inclusive communities.

The Digital Planning Directory was officially launched by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and the Digital Task Force for Planning on 22 January 2025 at the Local Government Association in London.

The launch marked a milestone moment for the UK’s planning sector. The Directory serves as a comprehensive, user-friendly online resource, featuring some of the most innovative digital planning service providers across ten categories.

With over 200 viewers online, the launch underscored the Directory’s potential to enhance the planning process. Seed-funded by MHCLG, the Directory aims to bridge the skills gap in local planning authorities and the broader planning sector, where a recent MHCLG survey revealed limited knowledge of selecting suitable digital planning tools and services.

In addition to company profiles featured in the Directory, the collection of case studies on the platform serves as a key resource for sharing best practices in digital planning and showcasing inspiring examples of what is possible. Throughout the year, the Directory will host free online themed events based on these case studies.

Currently, eligible UK companies can still take advantage of a one-year free listing in 2025, funded by MHCLG, provided they complete their registration in the Directory by 23:59 on 31st March 2025.
