This event is a member roundtable to discuss the open consultation on

This consultation package stems from the government's commitment to consult on further policy details, as outlined in the previous consultation on Delivering a Smart and Secure Electricity System in July 2022.

It aims to provide additional clarity on policy in three main areas:

  • Energy Smart Appliance Device Regulations,
  • Tariff Interoperability,
  • and the Load Control Licensing Regime.

The proposed measures aim to contribute to the creation of a smart and flexible electricity system, which will help reduce Britain's reliance on fossil fuels, lower household energy bills, and manage electricity demand more effectively. The consultation emphasises the importance of Demand Side Response (DSR), which involves shifting electricity use to minimise strain on the grid during peak periods.

Leveraging smart devices and flexibility could lead to significant benefits, including job creation, GDP growth, and a cleaner, more affordable electricity system. The proposals prioritize consumer choice and protection while fostering innovation and competitiveness in the energy market.

Overall, the consultation seeks to develop a technical framework to achieve a smart and secure electricity system in line with the government's net zero goals.
