techUK will be hosting a vital roundtable discussion focusing on Defra's Data and Information Strategic Roadmap, a key initiative driving the UK's environmental agenda.

This session, featuring Sue Bateman, Defra's Chief Data Officer, and her colleagues, will delve into the Roadmap's objectives and explore how enhanced data and information utilisation can underpin Defra's environmental missions, particularly within a federated operational framework.

Background:

Defra's establishment of a dedicated Chief Data Office and the subsequent publication of the 2030 Data and Information Strategic Roadmap in October of last year signalled a significant step towards placing data at the core of its operations. The roadmap is a collaborative effort between Defra, its partner organisations, and external stakeholders.

The recent launch of the Roadmap's second-year update provides a comprehensive overview of progress achieved, outlines the 2025/26 delivery plan, and presents a refreshed vision for 2030. This update underscores the ongoing commitment to leveraging data for environmental impact.

Key discussion points:

The upcoming roundtable will focus on:

  • Priorities for the coming year as outlined in the roadmap.
  • Strategic opportunities and challenges related to adopting leading practices in technology, skills, and culture.
  • Identifying key themes for future exploration and collaboration.

This event will provide a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to gain insights into Defra's data strategy and contribute to shaping the future of environmental data utilisation. We anticipate a productive discussion that will help inform and drive progress in this critical area.
