techUK and AWS are hosting a roundtable discussion to explore the progress industry has made adopting generative AI over the past 18 months. We will also discuss critical intersection of security and generative AI, addressing the challenges and opportunities that arise as this transformative technology gains momentum.
Generative AI, powered by foundation models, holds immense potential for revolutionizing industries across the economy. However, its rapid advancement also raises concerns about security, privacy, regulatory and ethical implications. As the new Government further develops its approach to AI, it is vital that security is a foundational pillar of all AI development, ensuring that the UK can realise the potential of these ground-breaking technologies.
This roundtable aims to foster a dialogue among industry leaders, policymakers, and experts, enabling them to share insights, best practices, and strategies for harnessing the power of generative AI while maintaining robust safeguards. Dan Patefield
Dan leads the techUK Cyber Security programme, having originally joined techUK in August 2017 as a Programme Manager working across the Cyber and Defence programmes. He is responsible for managing techUK's work across the cyber security eco-system, bringing industry together with key stakeholders across the public and private sectors. Dan also provides the industry secretariat for the Cyber Growth Partnership, the industry and Governmnet conduit for supporting growth across the sector. A key focus of his work is to strengthen the public-private partnership across cyber security to support further development of UK cyber security policy.
Before joining techUK he worked as Forum Lead for the Westminster eForum. In this role he had a focus on the technology and telecoms space, on issues ranging from Broadband and Mobile Infrastructure, the Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Data and diversity in tech. Dan has a BA in History from the University of Liverpool.

Margot joined techUK in September 2022 as the Head of Events and Sponsorship, running the event programme for our flagship events, such as the techUK Annual Dinner, Defence Ethics Summit, Building the Smarter State etc
Prior to this role, Margot managed events and external affairs for the Centre for Policy Studies, a political think tank in Westminster and also worked at the D Group, a London-based business membership organisation, where she was responsible for the events programme, account management and business strategy.
She holds a BA in Technical Translation in English, French and Spanish from Paris 7 - Denis Diderot and a MA in International Relations from the London Metropolitan University.
Outside of work, she enjoys travelling, going to concerts and snowboarding.
