The Future Visions series explores the next-generation technologies at the cutting edge of research and development that are set to disrupt industries, challenge incumbents, and act as a catalyst for growth. Attendees have the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in technology from those at the heart of its development, equipping them and their business to take action and realise the potential of future technologies.

Previous topics have included metaverse, neuromorphic computing, and photonics.

This webinar took place on 9 July 2024. You can access the event recording here.

Few future trends are as exciting as those regarding Web3 technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Web3 technologies constitute the evolution of a decentralised internet containing open standards and protocols - popular examples include blockchain, smart contracts, tokens and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, including perception, interaction and problem-solving.

When combined, these can help address fundamental challenges faced by Web3 technologies and AI, most notably barriers to mass adoption and a lack of user trust.

This session constitutes the launch of techUK's 'Web3 & Immersive technologies' campaign, which will run from July to December 2024.

It will convene world-leading experts across the fields of web3 technologies and AI to discuss the latest technological advancements, potential areas for UK Government support, and how businesses can make the most of the increasing convergence between these transformative technologies.

We will explore the following topics:

  • How is AI set to drive the development and adoption of web3 technologies? (including blockchain and smart contracts)
  • How can Web3 technologies build trust in AI products?
  • What industries are set to be transformed by the convergence of these technologies?
  • What technical infrastructure will this convergence depend upon?
  • Is the UK well positioned to lead in the intersection between these areas?
  • What more can UK industry and Government do to maximise opportunities in this area?
