How UK businesses can best prepare for the EU AI Act

Dr Osman Gazi Gucluturk

Legal and Regulatory Lead, Holistic AI

Dr Osman Gazi Gucluturk is the Legal and Regulatory Lead at Holistic AI, where he advises on regulatory requirements related to AI, with a primary focus on the EU AI Act, and helps integrate these requirements into proprietary AI Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) products. Previously, Dr. Gucluturk worked as a Visiting Fellow at Yale Law School's Information Society Project and as the Head of the IT Law Department at Boğaziçi University/Turkey. Dr Gucluturk is a member of the Council of Europe’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence, the Joint Technical Committee 21 on Artificial Intelligence at CEN/CENELEC, and the sub-committee 42 on Artificial Intelligence at ISO/IEC. He holds an LL.B., an M.A., an LL.M., and an MJur degree from Galatasaray University, Ankara University, London School of Economics, and the University of Oxford, respectively. He obtained his PhD in law from Galatasaray University with his thesis on the lawful use of data in machine learning-based artificial intelligence.

Katherine Holden

Head of Data Analytics, AI and Digital ID, techUK

Katherine joined techUK in May 2018 and currently leads the Data Analytics, AI and Digital ID programme. 

Prior to techUK, Katherine worked as a Policy Advisor at the Government Digital Service (GDS) supporting the digital transformation of UK Government.

Whilst working at the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) Katherine led AMRC’s policy work on patient data, consent and opt-out.    

Katherine has a BSc degree in Biology from the University of Nottingham.

Mr Tim Mcgarr

AI Market Development Lead, BSI

Tim McGarr is the AI Market Development Lead in BSI responsible for investigating new AI markets and delivering new AI assessment services. Prior to this Tim was the Sector Lead for BSI with responsibility for the direction and development of key digital standards areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. Tim has been working at BSI since 2009. Prior to BSI, Tim he spent 5 years working in the legal publisher LexisNexis in the strategy department. Before this, Tim he worked as a management consultant and an internal consultant. Tim has an MBA from HEC in Paris, France.

Isabel Simpson

Partner - Global Head of Data Privacy, KPMG Law

Isabel is a solution orientated digital and data protection specialist with a commercial and technology law background. She advises clients both in the private and public sector, bringing a market approach to data protection, digital and data ethics. Isabel supports clients with all aspects of data, digital and AI compliance, including advising on global data sovereignty compliance, global privacy compliance transformation programmes, structuring compliant data transfers, ethical and lawful use of AI and online safety requirements.

She is regarded as a pragmatic and commercial advisor and is a regular speaker on digital and data protection compliance and data ethics, as well as co-author of UK Finance Data Ethics Principles for AAAI. She is the vice-chair of the Data Committee for the International Regulatory Strategy Group, a member of the LMA Cross Border Data Protection Working Group, the IUA Data Protection Committee and the Tech UK Data Protection Committee.

Mr Dan Whitehead

Counsel, Hogan Lovells

Dan is Counsel at the global law firm Hogan Lovells in their privacy and cybersecurity practice, with a particular focus on digital regulation. He has an engineering background, with a degree in computer science. His practice increasingly focuses on supporting clients in the tech, financial services and life sciences sectors on developing AI governance and compliance frameworks.
