techUK is pleased to be hosting “Data as a Sector” round table with Newham Council. We will also be joined by Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham who will be sharing the boroughs ambition and vision for data and recovery.
Introduction:
“Data is not Digital and it’s not Technology”. We are bringing together thought leaders from across the private and public sector to explore this statement and a range of provocations to start to examine the potential of this exciting growth sector.
Key Provocation:
- There is a trend towards “tech businesses” calling themselves “data businesses”.
- The jobs, roles and skills needed in “data” are evolving quickly with no universally accepted chartered/accredited standards: one organisation’s Chief Data Officer is another organisations Excel whizz.
- Most organisations don’t know what “data capability” they need to invest in.
- The education system is not teaching “data” life and literacy skills that are needed now and in the future.
- The “data” market is growing and changing incredibly quickly – new companies with new capabilities are emerging at a pace unlike any other sector.
This round table will discuss these provocations and explore the proposition that data is a sector of its own, linked to, but different from the tech/digital sector. What are the implications for businesses, growth, jobs, education and the public sector if this is the case? How does the UK become the global leader in this space?
This event will be taking place on Zoom, with joining instructions to be sent nearer the time.
