techUK members are invited to a briefing on the policy landscape for innovation in the transport sector.

Transport has emerged as priority sector for the new Government following the General Election in July 2024. The new Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh, is following the mantra “move fast and fix things.” With six transport-related Bills in the King’s Speech, the Department for Transport has more legislation to deliver than any other department in this parliament.

Join techUK as we explore the implications this could have for innovation in the transport sector and the impact on new mobility solutions. This session will help you understand the recent announcements, their effects, opportunities for industry, and the expected timeline of events. Additionally, it provides a platform to share your views, helping shape techUK’s policy engagement with the Government on transport issues in the coming months and years.

The session will cover off the following, amongst other issues:

  • Rail industry reform: what could be the impact and opportunity for technology from the nationalisation of rail passenger franchises and establishing Great British Railways as a “directing mind” in the rail industry?

  • Better Buses: what do we know about the Government’s plans to reform bus franchising and how can this be used as an opportunity to modernise the sector through technology and data?

  • New mobility: How do we expect the Government to help new mobility solutions scale-up, including building on the Automated Vehicles Act 2024 to enable self-driving vehicle deployment and regulations to support growth in the micro-mobility sector?

  • Infrastructure, devolution and energy: what are the priorities in adjacent policy domains and how will these impact innovation within the transport sector?

We look forward to seeing your for what is certain to be a exciting discussion on how the transport sector looks set to transform in the years to come. While we encourage as many members to join as possible, the session will also be recorded and distributed to those unable to dial-in.
