Join us on Monday 15th July, to hear from automotive leaders how semiconductor technology is critical to the future of the vehicle industry.
The UK has a proud automotive heritage but maintaining our historic leadership will depend upon a strong semiconductor sector. This is because modern vehicles are changing. The industry is transitioning to electric, connected and automated vehicles, all of which depend on semiconductor technologies.
EVs require twice the amount of semiconductors (around 3,000) compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. Reliable access to these important components therefore becomes critical if the automotive sector is to continue its transition towards cleaner and more intelligent vehicles.
Modern cars include advanced sensor networks, cameras, and entertainment systems which are all dependent on increasingly advanced semiconductors.
Compound semiconductors were identified within the National Semiconductor Strategy as being a strength for the UK. These devices outperform silicon in certain characteristics critical to EVs such as the ability to operate effectively at high temperatures.
However, challenges remain for the UK’s capabilities, especially where disrupted supply chains negatively impact production. This webinar will begin unpacking some of the issues with leaders from the UK's automotive and semiconductor sector.
On Monday 15th July, we’ll be joined by sector experts to explore:
🚗How is the Semiconductor sector enabling the next generation of cars?
🌎Is the UK well positioned to become a leader in this sector?
👩🔬What is holding back the Semiconductor industry in meeting this demand for car chips?
🏢Can the recently announced National Semiconductor Institute help support this relationship?

Sprint Campaigns
techUK's sprint campaigns explore how emerging and transformative technologies are developed, applied and commercialised across the UK's innovation ecosystem.
Activity includes workshops, roundtables, panel discussions, networking sessions, Summits, and flagship reports (setting out recommendations for Government and industry).
Each campaign runs for 4-6 months and features regular collaborations with programmes across techUK.
This campaign explored how the UK can lead on the development, application and commercialisation of space technologies and ultimately realise the benefits of the New Space Economy.
These technologies include AI, quantum, lasers, robotics & automation, advanced propulsion and materials, and semiconductors.
Activity has taken the form of roundtables, panel discussions, networking sessions, Summits, thought leadership pieces, policy recommendations, and a report.
