On 15 July, techUK members are invited to attend a roundtable session with DCMS and DMSL on the Shared Rural Network.
The Shared Rural Network is a £1 billion investment by the UK Government and mobile operators to extend 4G coverage to 95% of the UK. Industry will invest £532m to eliminate the majority of ‘partial not-spots’ – areas which receive coverage from at least one, but not all, operators. Government funding will be invested in building new masts to eliminate ‘total not-spots’ – hard to reach areas where there is currently no coverage at all.
Given the clear cost savings involved, the SRN will encourage the use of existing infrastructure where practical. Last month, a new consultation was launched to help DMSL, the grant funding recipient for Total Not Spot (TNS) deployment, identify who may be able to support TNS deployment in target areas. This could be through ownership of specific telecommunications infrastructure or where there are plans to build such infrastructure.
At this roundtable we will hear from:
- James Lee, Shared Rural Network | BDUK, DCMS
- Paul Young, SRN Director, DMSL
The purpose of the roundtable:
- Socialise techUK members with the consultation
- Learn more about TNS deployment from DMSL
- Q&A for members
To learn more about the consultation – please visit the DCMS webpage. Deadline for responses is 27 July 2021.
Attendance is for techUK members only. For more information on this project, please contact Sophie James.
