Nina Alag Suri

Nina Alag Suri, is the Founder and CEO of X0PA AI. Before X0PA, she has founded multiple start-ups and been a serial entrepreneur for over 20 years. Born and raised in India, Nina has lived and worked in over nine countries. She is an Electronics Engineer by qualification and a self-declared geek at heart. Her previous organisation Nastrac Group was a traditional search firm, and it was through running it she realised the inefficiencies and biases in hiring processes and founded X0PA AI to address these with the power of data, AI and automation. Nina has been endowed with multiple awards for her entrepreneurship and innovation. X0PA operates globally from its four offices across APAC, India, UK and UAE. The company recently closed its Series A round with a diverse set of Venture Capitalists across the globe. Nina is also the Founder and Chair of Empauwer, an AI tech start-up that works with enterprise clients to help hire and onboard neurodiverse individuals.

Dr Chris Anagnostopoulos

Chris is a Senior Expert at QuantumBlack McKinsey. He is singularly motivated by the belief that safe, responsible adoption of AI/ML in the Life Sciences can drastically accelerate scientific discovery. He leads large hybrid teams of machine learning engineers, data scientists, clinical and biopharma experts and biostatisticians to help biopharma R&D organisations accelerate their AI transformation journeys. He maintains an Honorary Associate Professorship at Imperial College London, where he teaches Ethical AI and Data Science. He previously served as head of R&D of the modelling and simulation division of a large UK-based technology company.

Ivana Bartoletti is the Global Head of Privacy at Wipro, the leading international information technology, consulting and business process services company.

Ivana is an internationally recognised thought leader in the fields of privacy, data protection and responsible technology. She has many years of experience working for large organizations in privacy policy, strategy and programmes related to digital transformation, cloud and automation. The Cyber Security Awards named her Woman of the Year (2019).

As a Visiting Policy Fellow at the University of Oxford, her research focuses on how to advance the global sharing of information in the context of privacy, security, data protection and human rights.

Areeq Chowdhury

Head of Policy, Data & Digital Technologies, The Royal Society

Areeq Chowdhury is Head of Policy (Data and Digital Technologies) at The Royal Society. The team he leads at the Society focuses on how artificial intelligence and other data-driven technologies can, and should, be used to benefit humanity.

Areeq is also a Labour Party Councillor for Canning Town, in East London, and founded the influential technology policy think tank, WebRoots Democracy, which ran between 2014 and 2020. He has authored various reports on digital democracy, social media, and artificial intelligence. Most notably, Areeq led a high profile project on disinformation during the 2019 UK General Election, producing viral deepfakes of Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn endorsing each other for Prime Minister.

Areeq holds a BSc in Economics and Political Science from the University of Birmingham. His career history includes working at the Foreign Office; the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport; the UK Parliament; London City Hall; and KPMG.

Sue Daley OBE

Director, Technology and Innovation, techUK

Sue leads techUK's Technology and Innovation work.

This includes work programmes on cloud, data protection, data analytics, AI, digital ethics, Digital Identity and Internet of Things as well as emerging and transformative technologies and innovation policy. She has been recognised as one of the most influential people in UK tech by Computer Weekly's UKtech50 Longlist and in 2021 was inducted into the Computer Weekly Most Influential Women in UK Tech Hall of Fame. A key influencer in driving forward the data agenda in the UK Sue is co-chair of the UK government's National Data Strategy Forum. As well as being recognised in the UK's Big Data 100 and the Global Top 100 Data Visionaries for 2020 Sue has also been shortlisted for the Milton Keynes Women Leaders Awards and was a judge for the Loebner Prize in AI. In addition to being a regular industry speaker on issues including AI ethics, data protection and cyber security, Sue was recently a judge for the UK Tech 50 and is a regular judge of the annual UK Cloud Awards.

Prior to joining techUK in January 2015 Sue was responsible for Symantec's Government Relations in the UK and Ireland. She has spoken at events including the UK-China Internet Forum in Beijing, UN IGF and European RSA on issues ranging from data usage and privacy, cloud computing and online child safety. Before joining Symantec, Sue was senior policy advisor at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI). Sue has an BA degree on History and American Studies from Leeds University and a Masters Degree on International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Birmingham. Sue is a keen sportswoman and in 2016 achieved a lifelong ambition to swim the English Channel.

Gabriela De Oliveira

Head of Policy, Research and Campaigns, Glitch

Gabriela is the Head of Policy, Research and Campaigns at Glitch, a Black led, feminist, organisation tackling online abuse and building better Digital Citizenship. Having worked in campaigning, data analysis and policy in the non-profit sector for almost a decade, Gabriela has dedicated the last 2 years to tackling Online Gender Based Violence. As part of her role at Glitch, Gabriela works with tech stakeholders, anti-racist activists, the violence against women sector and legislators across the UK and internationally, to make online spaces safe for Black women, LGBTQ+ folk and other often marginalised groups. Catherine Dunkerley

Catherine Dunkerley is a data privacy, governance and digital ethics subject matter expert, combining a legal background with over 20 years experience in digital. Catherine leads PwC's Data Privacy and Governance practice for technology, media and telecoms clients. In addition to this Catherine co-leads the firm's Digital Ethics practice, supporting global brands with AI ethics and digital ethics initiatives. Asha Easton

Asha Easton is currently Innovate UK KTN’s Lead for Immerse UK, the UK’s national innovation network for immersive technology professionals. The organisation works to grow the immersive tech industry in the UK, and make the ecosystem across the country less fragmented by facilitating connections between private companies, the academic community, and the government. Asha is particularly passionate about helping to promote diversity & inclusion in the industry. John Edwards

John Edwards began his term as UK Information Commissioner in January 2022. 

He worked as a solicitor and barrister for more than 20 years, including time as a policy adviser to the New Zealand Prime Minister and Cabinet around Freedom of Information.

From February 2014 to December 2021, he was New Zealand Privacy Commissioner and during that time, he chaired the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (now known as the Global Privacy Assembly).

Since taking office, John has set out his vision for the ICO to be a regulator that: empowers people to confidently share their information to use the services that drive the economy; empowers organisations to use information responsibly to innovate; and empowers people to hold organisations to account. One priority involves leading the ICO through constitutional and governance reform resulting from the Data Protection and Digital Information (DPDI) (No.2) Bill which is currently working its way through Parliament.

Professor Luciano Floridi

Founding Director of the Digital Ethics Center and Professor in the Cognitive Science Program, Yale University

Founding Director of the Digital Ethics Center and Professor in the Cognitive Science Program, Yale University; Professor of Sociology of Culture and Communication at Bologna University. He is one of the most authoritative voices of contemporary philosophy, the founder of the philosophy of information, and one of the major interpreters of the digital revolution. His more than 300 works about the philosophy of information, digital ethics, the ethics of AI, and the philosophy of technology have been translated into many languages. His most recent books are The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence – Principles, Challenges, and Opportunities (OUP, 2023) and The Green and The Blue – Naive Ideas to Improve Politics in the Digital Age (Wiley, 2023). Among his many awards, in 2022 he was made Knight of the Grand Cross OMRI for his foundational work in philosophy.

Whilst working at the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) Katherine led AMRC’s policy work on patient data, consent and opt-out. Katherine has a BSc degree in Biology from the University of Nottingham.

Calum Inverarity

Calum Inverarity is a Senior Researcher with the Research & Development team at the Open Data Institute. His research interests lie in the interplay between science, technology and society, and the questions this asks of the responsibilities and distribution of power within data ecosystems. At the ODI his work focuses on the ethical use of data and related technologies by both state and non-state actors. 
 
He has previously worked with think tanks and research institutes in the UK and Belgium focusing on international security, economic policy and conflict resolution. During this time his research has covered cybersecurity, decision making within complex systems, contemporary governance and post-conflict constitutional reform.

He leads strategic and regulatory advice on digital regulation, emerging technologies, data privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory engagements and public policy. Jan joined the Council of Europe in 1983 as a Lawyer with the European Commission of Human Rights. Subsequently he served in the Parliamentary Assembly and as Director of the Secretary General's Private Office. 

He is currently Director of Information Society - Action against Crime. His Directorate carries out standard-setting, monitoring and co-operation activities on Freedom of expression, Data protection, Artificial Intelligence, Internet governance, Cybercrime, Terrorism, Criminal law, Fighting corruption and money laundering… 

Jan has been Council of Europe Internet Governance Coordinator since 2018.  

He regularly publishes articles on his work and speaks at universities worldwide. In between, he is a keen marathon runner.

Dr Anjali Mazumder

Justice and Human Rights Theme Lead, The Alan Turing Institute

Anjali Mazumder is the Theme Lead on AI and Justice & Human Rights and the Research Chair for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The Alan Turing Institute. (The Alan Turing Institute is the UK’s national institute of data science and artificial intelligence.) Her work is at the intersection of algorithms and the law where her interest is in actualising the benefits and opportunities of data science and AI whilst mitigating and balancing against its potential harms and risks in applications of justice, health, education, finance, etc. Her research focuses on developing, evaluating and expanding the solution space for socio-technical systems addressing issues of fairness, inequalities, robustness and privacy; and promoting the law, human rights, diversity and inclusion at the core of responsible data, data flows and AI research, innovation and governance. 

She has over 15 years’ experience tackling fundamental statistical problems of societal importance working at the interface of research, policy and practice in the UK, the US, and Canada, in the areas of justice, education, health and public safety, and, fostering multi-disciplinary and cross-sector collaborations. She serves the statistics community in various ways including as an elected Council member of the Royal Statistical Society, and committee member of its respective Statistics and the Law, and the Data Science sections. She was appointed to Canada’s National DNA Databank Advisory Committee (2012-2018) and currently serves on the Research Advisory Board Panel for the Educational Testing Service, and the senior management board of the UK’s Policy and Evidence Centre for Modern Slavery and Human Rights. She holds a doctorate in Statistics from the University of Oxford and two masters’ degrees in Measurement and Evaluation, and Statistics from the University of Toronto.

Sam Nutt is a Researcher and Data Ethicist at the London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI). Michaela Omelkova

Michaela is Data Ethics Advisor for the Data and Intelligence Network of the Scottish Government. Her work in the Data and Intelligence Network focuses on building data ethics infrastructure to support data-led activities and decision making in the Scottish Government. Michaela furthermore manages a public engagement panel on the Use of Data which aims to develop ethics principles and create a blueprint for a long-standing public panel in this area.

 

Michaela received her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Dundee. Her doctoral research focused on investigating and modelling a rare heritable intellectual disability syndrome using stem cells. Through this, Michaela has faced multiple complex ethical challenges, and her interactions with clinicians and patients alike were instrumental in shaping her approach to ethical use of data.

Professor Fraser Sampson

Commissioner for the Retention and Use of Biometric Material and Surveillance Camera Commissioner

Fraser Sampson is an Honorary Professor and member of the Advisory Board at the Centre for Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence & Organised Crime Research at Sheffield Hallam University where he obtained a PhD in digital accountability in law enforcement and has worked on a number of international research projects involving technology within policing, including the development of principles for the accountable use of AI.  Having over 40 years’ experience working in the criminal justice sector, he served as a police officer in the West Yorkshire Police and British Transport Police before becoming a solicitor specialising in policing law, conduct and governance.  He has written and edited a number of leading police law texts including the Blackstone’s Police Manuals published by Oxford University Press.  As national chair of the Association of Police and Crime Chief Executives, he proposed and subsequently drafted the statutory oath of office for police and crime commissioners and was appointed CEO & Solicitor to the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire in 2012 where he was instrumental in establishing the National Police Air Service, later being seconded as CEO to the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner in North Yorkshire.  He is a graduate of the Top Management Programme at the Civil Service College, a Senior Fellow of the Weinstein International Foundation for dispute resolution in the United States and a CEDR qualified mediator.

Tim Scott joined the Roblox team as Director of Public Policy, UK from games industry body Ukie, where he was Head of Policy and Public Affairs. Prior to this he spent over a decade in the UK civil service where he led Creative Industries and Tech policy in the Cabinet Office and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Hetan Shah

Chief Executive, The British Academy

Hetan Shah is chief executive at the British Academy, the UK’s national academy for humanities and social sciences. He is Chair of Our World in Data, which brings together research and data to make progress against the world’s largest problems. Hetan was appointed in 2024 by the UK Parliament to the board of the National Audit Office, the UK’s independent spending watchdog. He is Visiting Professor at the Policy Institute, Kings College London and a Fellow at Birkbeck, University of London. Professor Beth Singler

Professor Beth Singler is the new Assistant Professor in Digital Religion(s) at the University of Zurich. Prior to this she was the Junior Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. Beth's anthropological research explores the social, ethical, philosophical and religious implications of advances in Artificial Intelligence and robotics. She has spoken on AI and human identity at the London Science Museum, Cheltenham Science Festival, the Barbican, the Edinburgh Science Festival, Ars Electronica, and New Scientist Live. She has been interviewed about her work by the New Scientist, Forbes, the Guardian, the New York Times, and the BBC, among others. As a part of her public engagement work, she has produced a series of short documentaries about AI and humanity. The first, 'Pain in the Machine', won the 2017 AHRC Best Research Film of the Year Award.

Professor Jack Stilgoe

Professor in Science and Technology Studies, University College London

Dr Jack Stilgoe is a professor in science and technology studies at University College London, where he researches the governance of emerging technologies. He is principal investigator of the ESRC Driverless Futures project (2019-2021). This project is looking to anticipate the politics of self-driving cars. Among other publications, he is the author of ‘Who’s Driving Innovation?’ (2020, Palgrave) and ‘Experiment Earth: Responsible innovation in geoengineering’ (2015, Routledge). Dr Janet Valentine

Director of Health Data and Digital Policy, ABPI

Janet has extensive experience in the UK health data research environment and was recently appointed as Director of Health Data and Digital Policy at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI). Prior to joining ABPI, Janet was the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Director for Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine at Innovate UK, where she oversaw a broad portfolio of data and digital enabled investments in genomics, health data, AI, medical imaging and digital pathology. In her previous role as Director on the Executive team at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Janet led the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). CPRD is the UK’s largest dedicated health data research service, providing research data services to industry, academia and regulators worldwide. Janet’s previous roles include Head of Population Health and Health Informatics at the Medical Research Council and Deputy Chief Executive of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration.

Antony Walker

Deputy CEO, techUK

Antony Walker is deputy CEO of techUK,  which he played a lead role in launching in November 2013.

Antony is a member of the senior leadership team and has overall responsibility for techUK’s policy work. Prior to his appointment in July 2012 Antony was chief executive of the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), the UK’s independent advisory group on broadband policy. Antony was closely involved in the development of broadband policy development in the UK since the BSG was established in 2001 and authored several major reports to government. He also led the development of the UK’s world leading Open Internet Code of Practice that addresses the issue of net neutrality in the UK. Prior to setting up the BSG, Antony spent six years working in Brussels for the American Chamber of Commerce following and writing about telecoms issues and as a consultant working on EU social affairs and environmental issues. Antony is a graduate of Aberdeen University and KU Leuven and is also a Policy Fellow Alumni of the Centre for Science and Policy at Cambridge University.

Dr Adrian Weller

Programme Director for AI, The Alan Turing Institute

Dr Adrian Weller MBE is a Programme Director and Turing Fellow leading work on Safe and Ethical AI at The Alan Turing Institute, the UK national institute for data science and AI. He is a Director of Research in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, and at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence where he is Programme Director for Trust and Society. His interests span AI, its commercial applications and helping to ensure beneficial outcomes for society. He serves on several boards including the advisory board for the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. Previously, Adrian held senior roles in finance.
